The 15th Japanese Media Arts Festival

The 15th Japanese Media Arts Festival exhibition has started at The National Art Center, Tokyo, from February 22 to March 4, 2012. The 15th Japanese Media Arts Festival has attracted much attention not only in Japan but overseas as well, and the number of submissions has reached a record 2,714 entries. And at this exhibition about 150 works including Award winning-works is exhibited in four categories: art, entertainment, animation, and manga.
In the art category, a video work titled Que voz feio (That Ugly Voice) was selected for the Grand Prize. Twin women, each in a different location, talk about a certain incident in their childhood. The viewer sees two screens, each with video, sound, and subtitles simultaneously, and gradually notices subtle differences between the two. The video is an experience of “difference” on various levels, such as time, speaker, and subtitles.
