KOKUYO DESIGN AWARD makes a new start on the theme “The Design of Campus”
11.02.19

KOKUYO DESIGN AWARD made a new start in 2011 after recharging its batteries since the last time the event was held in 2009. The theme is “the design of Campus,” the brand name of Kokuyo’s products. Just mention the word “campus” and any Japanese person will think of Campus notebooks, which has shipped 2.2 billion units since going on sale in 1975. The Campus brand at Kokuyo today, however, isn’t just about notebooks, and has under development a whole range of products related to learning, such as stationary, school furniture and even learning spaces. The award this time around seeks furniture and stationary that expand Campus brand categories in support of learning. By requesting that the proposals be connected with the actual products in the Campus brand, the intent is to increase the possibility of commercializing the award winning entries.
Although one often hears of the difficulties of a competition premised on commercializing the winning designs, with this newly launched award Kokuyo is aiming for a concrete approach to making things that originates with the users. Given the event’s high degree of recognition overseas, it will be interesting to see some unique viewpoints from countries other than Japan.
Entries will be accepted until May 10. Please see the competition home page
