The aged driver’s mark needs new design

09.11.20

This is the aged driver’s mark in Japan. Drivers who is older than 70 years old should attach this mark in the front and backside of their vehicles.

This mark is called Momiji Mark, and momiji means “autumn leaf” in Japanese. In other words the motif of this mark is autumn leaf.

Now this mark has a bad reputation like “fallen leaf mark,” or “dried leaf mark” etc. Many people said that this mark persecute the aged.

Then the National Police Agency is calling for new design proposal from November 20 to January 8 2010.

By the way the mark for new drivers is called “Wakaba Mark”, and wakaba is “young leaf” in English. You may understand how simplistic Momiji Mark’s design concept.
