The Prototype Archive 4 Antenna Design New York Nosy Parker (2005)

Premised on use in public spaces, Nosy Parker is a stool that evokes interaction between strangers. Images appear the instant you sit on the stool. After a while however, you notice that the images are of you. They are taken by a video camera installed in the stool.
When someone else sits on another stool the same thing happens to him, although this time your images and the other person’s images go back and forth between the stools, making the two of you aware of each other.

This resembles a certain situation that occurs when people walking their dogs in the park are pulled into a conversation when their dogs try to approach each other. Some people may even use their dogs to create this situation as an ice breaker. In the midst of what some call a surveillance society, the designers thought they might be able to use technology used in surveillance to promote positive communication between people.
